Along with a faculty appointment, an endowed professor position is available. The Gladys E. Sorenson Endowed Professor for Advancing Care of Individuals with Serious Illness will be a senior nurse scientist with a history of extramurally funded research focused on improving the health, well-being, and/or healthcare of individuals with serious illness across the continuum of heath care. The Sorenson Endowed Professor will focus on developing and maintaining a team-based program of research, mentoring junior faculty and doctoral students, and teaching in the PhD program.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Gladys E. Sorensen
Professor will be a national leader in discovering and disseminating new
strategies for improving the lives of individuals with serious illness. This
Endowed Professor will build and lead interdisciplinary research teams that
will have a positive impact on people's lives.

  • Develop and maintain a focused, extramurally funded
    program of research.
  • Communicate scholarship (teaching, research, and/or
    practice/service) intra and inter professionally.
  • Serve or develop as a master teacher in the PhD program,
    laboratory, or field sites.
  • Serve as a research mentor to graduate students and
    undergraduate honors students.
  • Serve as a mentor to and/or collaborator for peer
    faculty in their research.
  • Participate in faculty governance of the College and
    University.
  • Provide professional leadership within regional, local, national, and
    international nursing and multi-disciplinary groups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field.
  • Program of research as evidenced by extramurally funded
    research and data-based publications.
  • Eligible for Registered Nurse licensure in Arizona.

Preferred Qualifications

*Previous teaching experience at the graduate level.
*Previous mentoring experience.
*Program of research as evidenced by extramurally funded research and data-

*Eligible for Registered Nurse licensure in Arizona.
