Job Description

The Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction position in the Engineering Technology and Management Department; The position is expected to begin on August 16, 2022. We are looking for candidates from an engineering or technology discipline who have a passion for helping students develop not only their knowledge of engineering and technology but also their ability to study, practice, and apply what they learn. Candidates should also be able to significantly contribute to the supportive, encouraging, collaborative environment students find in the Russ College, where we "create for good," and develop long-lasting, positive solutions to complex problems in business, society, and a globalized economy.

The successful candidate is expected to teach 24 credit hours per academic year with multiple lab sections (for example, three courses each semester with multiple lab sections). Courses will include but not limited to Introduction to Manufacturing with included lab sections, Product Design, Capstone courses and lab sections, and other ETM courses as needed and designated by the Department Chair. The Assistant Professor of Instruction will work with other ETM faculty to align the course objectives and student learning outcomes. Because our goal is for graduates to go beyond technical competence and excel in communication, initiative, collaboration, leadership, and creativity, it is expected that these attributes be part of the unspoken curriculum in all courses. The Assistant Professor of Instruction will have opportunities to contribute to student development beyond the classroom through coaching student organizations, advising students, and leading out-of-class learning opportunities for students. This position is expected to be long-term, so the candidate also will need to develop and implement a plan for continuous professional development. It is an express expectation that the successful candidate will be able to work with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and to help students learn people skills necessary to succeed in a diverse, pluralistic, and globalized workforce.

Ohio University offers a competitive salary with an excellent fringe benefit package. Opportunities may exist for additional teaching or professional practice during the summer and, periodically, for teaching intermediate and/or advanced courses in a candidate's disciplinary area. The position is not tenure track, but Ohio University may offer the Assistant Professor of Instruction multi-year contracts and opportunities for promotion pursuant to group II faculty rules per the faculty handbook.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in a related engineering or technology discipline. Minimum three years of industrial work experience is required. Experience in teaching undergraduate students in at least one of the listed course topics: Introduction to Manufacturing and woodworking lab sections, Product Design and lab sections, Capstone product design, and lab support.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years or more of significant related industrial work and three years or more teaching undergraduate students in the listed course topics: Introduction to Manufacturing and woodworking lab sections, Product Design and lab sections, Capstone product design and related product documentation, and lab support. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate exceptional teaching, disciplinary competence, and the ability to work as part of the departmental team.
