Duties:

Responsible for didactic and laboratory instruction in any of the following areas as needed by the department, e.g., pathology, tests and measures, documentation, health care communication, among other potential courses. Direct student learning and assessing student progress in achieving the requirements of the program in the appropriate learning domains. Teach up to 24-27 workload units per 9-month contract; courses may be delivered as face-to-face, online or hybrid. Contribute to the improvement of the department, college, university, and community through active involvement in committee work. Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. Write and update course syllabi, and assist with curriculum review, revision, and development. Maintain departmental integrity of student records. Maintain program learning outcomes, assessment, and curriculum as required by the university and external accreditation body. Coordinate and ensure adherence to national accreditation standards. Engage in professional development in the field of physical therapy, adult education, and online instruction. Attend department meetings and engage in continuous quality improvement. Work effectively and collaboratively within the scope of the University of Alaska mission with a diverse student population and university staff. Coordinate schedules for the Physical Therapist Assistant program and arrange for adjunct instructors as needed. Summary of UAA/School of Allied Health:
The University of Alaska Anchorage, School of Allied Health seeks an innovative, energetic individual who will work in a collaborative teaching environment in the delivery of Allied Health courses within the UAA Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. The program director/faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current PTA students, didactic and laboratory education to students enrolled in the PTA program.  The program director/faculty will be responsible for the structure as well as the daily operation of the program, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula.

Position Summary:
This position who will work in a collaborative/interdisciplinary teaching environment in the delivery of Allied Health courses within the UAA Physical Therapist Assistant program. The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current PTA students, didactic and laboratory education to students enrolled in the PTA program.  The program director will be responsible for the structure as well as the daily operation of the program, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula. This position supports the University of Alaska bipartite mission of performing teaching and service.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to teach entry-level Physical Therapist Assistant psychomotor, affective, and cognitive competencies using various diverse pedagogical methods to engage students in learning, such as lecture presentations, laboratory assessments, Blackboard applications, research, and the ability to teach using online modalities.

Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and professionally with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Ability to work effectively in a faculty team, as well as function independently.

Demonstration of commitment to ongoing professional development.

Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience in a variety of areas of teaching (academic, clinical, continuing education, in-service).

Experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment, including the equivalent of nine credits of coursework in educational foundations.

Experience in student evaluation and outcomes assessment.

Experience in administration, fiscal management, and human resource management.

Commitment to and the ability to work effectively within the scope of the College of Health mission and to work with a diverse student and staff population.

Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; computer literacy.

Currency in contemporary physical therapy practice.

Knowledge of contemporary curricular content for the education of the physical therapist assistant.

Service on behalf of physical therapy education, the community, and/or the profession Experience with academic governance.

Preferred:
Successful citizen partnership skills and experience maintaining partnerships with private and public agencies and organizations, including advisory boards.

Required Experience:

Minimum five years' experience in clinical practice.

Significant experience in clinical practice as a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant.

Education/Training:

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree or above preferred.

Licensure as a Physical Therapist; or licensure, certification, or registration in states where applicable as a Physical Therapist
Assistant.

Salary:

Salary will be based upon level of academic appointment, applicable academic preparation and experience.

Assignment Information:
