Service: Partner with the UAF School of Education (SOE), UAF Career and Technical College (CTC) for course selection and scheduling. Work closely with the KuC area school districts to offer dual enrollment coursework in Writing and Education.Essential

Teaching: Address the growing demand for Education courses to be offered in-person at KuC through delivery of Education coursework and support students in completing their Local Knowledge Educator Certificate. Expand course offerings both face-to-face and through remote learning for students in need of composition classes where regional students are underprepared for post-secondary coursework. Teach in-person foundational courses from the Local Knowledge Educator sequence, to meet the needs of the Lower Kuskokwim School District. (Examples include ED F111 - Teaching for Alaksa's Future ; WRTG F111X - Writing Across Contexts) Development of a substitute teaching program to address teaching shortages in the Yukon Kuskokwim (YK) region.Essential

This position is 9-months, full-time appointment, complete with a competitive UA Benefits Package. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is located on campus in Bethel, Alaska.


Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students and ability to work as a team player.
Knowledge of Alaska Native people and communities
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work with the team of School of Education and Writing faculty and advisors.

Although not required for this position, the following additional knowledge, skills and abilities are also preferred:
Oral and written proficiency in Yugtun
Experience working in the community through partnerships and/or on advisory boards.
Experience working with diverse student populations or in multicultural settings.
Experience with instruction involving distance delivery and technologies (either as a student or teacher).


Three years successful teaching experience in English/Writing at college level (will consider more extensive high school experience).
Three years of certificated teaching experience in a public school.
Experience working with Indigenous populations in schools.
Experience working with adults in a teaching/learning situation (e.g., teaching at a university level, supervising pre-service teachers, providing in-service workshops for teachers).
Experience and expertise with Google Applications and with distance learning platforms.
Prefer candidates who are multilingual and have life/work experience in rural settings, particularly rural Alaska.


Master's Degree, or higher, in Education AND
Master's degree in English OR relevant experience teaching Writing courses.
Current State of Alaska Teaching license
