Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Nutrition

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
Primary Purpose:
The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 11-month, non-tenure track faculty position for its Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition (MSCN) Future Education Model (FEM) Graduate Program (GP), granted candidate status by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. This program is located at the School of Health Sciences Sacramento campus and is delivered in a trimester academic calendar. The FEM integrates didactic coursework with one-thousand (1000) hours of supervised experiential learning in a competency-based curriculum. Faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.

Department of Nutrition faculty are responsible for providing all aspects of didactic and clinical education for its programs. We aspire to promote student-centered learning within a humanistic environment such that students are enthusiastic about providing scientifically-based, patient-centered care. Teaching is the primary focus of faculty at the University. Scholarship and professional service are valued by the department and University of the Pacific.

Essential Functions:
  1. Teach in-seat, hybrid, and/or online courses as assigned in areas of expertise.
  2. Design and deliver courses using competency-based education model and innovative teaching and learning modalities.
  3. Advise and mentor students including on their capstone projects.
  4. Collaborate with other health programs in interprofessional education and initiatives.
  5. Engage in scholarship and professional development activities.
  6. Participate in service roles at the departmental, school, and/or university levels.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Earned Master degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field (PhD, DCN, DrPH) or other terminal degree (EdD) plus a degree in nutrition.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post baccalaureate level.
  • Three (3) years of practice experience as a registered dietitian/nutritionist.
  • Advanced practice credentials (eg. CNSC, CDCES, or any CDR Board Certified Specialist, etc.
  • Demonstrated ongoing scholarly achievement and research expertise.
  • Experience with ACEND accreditation under the Future Education Model Graduate Program standards.
  • Experience with online pedagogy.
  • Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service throughout ones career.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion of the institutional mission and values.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/TravelWork is primarily performed on-line in a remote location. Availability for students, faculty and staff during program hours is expected, regardless of time-zone where the work is performed. Participation in school-wide meetings virtually and occasional events on-campus as needed.

Work performed mostly during standard business hours. Some events on weekends/evenings are to be expected and will be scheduled with advance notice. Occasional travel to the three university campuses, as well as off-site locations to support recruitment and alumni events.
