Assistant Professor of Sociology

Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time faculty position of Assistant Professor of Sociology. This position requires academic background in sociology as well as teaching and research experience in one or more subfields of sociology. The successful candidate must show a commitment to undergraduate student success, effective classroom teaching, support and growth of the Sociology and Criminal Justice Programs, and service to the university. The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Sociology; those nearing terminal degree by start date will be considered. Responsibilities/Duties:

• Engages in all aspects of university life, including teaching, service, and scholarship as a full-time member of the faculty
• Teaches a variety of courses, including introductory and upper-level sociology and criminal justice courses, as well as supervising internships. The teaching load may include some evening, online, hybrid, and summer courses.
• Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

• Skilled in teaching a wide variety of courses in both sociology and criminal justice
• Demonstrates a commitment to and capacity for excellent undergraduate teaching and creating connections with the community

• Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information

Minimum Experience Required:

Previous teaching at the undergraduate level in the fields of sociology and criminal justice

Education Requirements:

• The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Sociology. Those nearing terminal degree by start date will be considered.
• Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred.
