Position Information

DICKINSON STATE UNIVERSITY (DSU) is a regional comprehensive institution within the North Dakota University System, whose primary role is to contribute to intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development, especially to Southwestern North Dakota. DSU is seeking to hire an Annual Contract Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Physics for the Department of Natural Sciences. The Department of Natural Sciences provides students with courses and degree programs in a range of subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, zoology, animal physiology/behavior, wildlife management, and environmental sciences. Our curriculum is designed to train and equip students with the knowledge needed to contribute to the intellectual, economic, and cultural development of our region.

This position provides expertise in chemistry and physics to the Department of Natural Sciences and to related departments and programs, participates in appropriate professional development, provides service to the university, and serves as a local expert in the area of academic expertise for the citizens of western North Dakota.


  • Master's degree in an appropriate field
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution


  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Detail oriented work style


  • Terminal degree (ABD considered)
  • Experience in K-12 education
  • Demonstrated excellence in post-secondary teaching
  • Experience teaching labs
  • Ability to integrate technology in educational settings
  • Familiarity with Theodore Roosevelt, his relationship with western North Dakota, and/or his relationship with the candidate's field of expertise


  • Salary range of $45,000-51,500/annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
