Job Description

The Department of Biology at Providence College in Providence, RI invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2023.

As the student body at Providence College grows increasingly diverse, we have a strong preference for candidates who demonstrate a deep commitment to and proven ability in supporting the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups.

Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach Developmental Biology and/or Cancer Biology. The department has outstanding teaching and research facilities including a vivarium, a microscopy suite, a cell culture room, common use molecular equipment, and dedicated wet labs for student/faculty research.


Essential Duties

Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship and to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students. The successful candidate should be able to teach Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, Genetics and courses in their specialty area, as well as propose a research program that complements but does not overlap with the scientific interests/model systems of the current faculty.

Education and Experience Required

We seek outstanding candidates who hold a Ph.D. (post-doctoral experience preferred) in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology or a closely related field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned doctorate in cell biology, molecular biology or related field
  • Record of scholarly productivity
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education, including development of inclusive pedagogy
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, diversity, and equity


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated success mentoring students
  • Demonstrated success engaging undergraduates in research
