Position Vacancy AnnouncementThis position is responsible for academic administration, teaching, research, securing external funding, curriculum and faculty development, student advisement and University and community service on behalf of the Division of Health Care Management, School of Allied Health Sciences (SOAHS), and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). The Director is responsible for maintaining FAMU's standing as the only CAHME accredited graduate program housed in an HBCU in the nation.
Sets goals objectives and identify priorities that are supportive of the mission of the University; Collaborates with the administration, faculty, and staff in planning as appropriate; Designs annual and long-range plans compatible with the FAMU's strategic plan; and annually develops and manages the graduate program's Title III budget.
Utilizes appropriate measures accountability to determine annual and long-range progress; Monitors progress of faculty or staff in achieving unit or program goals at a quality level; Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to assessment; Prepares appropriate and required reports and responses in an effective and timely manner; and explains to faculty and staff their performance expectations and apprises them periodically of their strengths and weaknesses.
Simulates creative program development and implementation consistent with established goals and objectives; Ensures assessments are conducted at course and program levels and results are utilized for improvement; Encourages and supports faculty members to strive for excellence in teaching, research, and public service; Delegates responsibility and authority to subordinates in an appropriate and effective manner; Has open lines of communication with administration, faculty, staff and students; Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to essential change in his/her attitude toward special projects; Shows dedication, motivation, enthusiasm, and initiative in seeking quality in educational unit; Provides effective leadership for the recruitment of students; and provides effective leadership for the retention of students.
Formulates procedures and creates a positive climate for achieving established College/School/University goals; Enhances the development of faculty, staff, and students of the unit by encouraging professional development and providing an environment, which maximizes professional growth; Makes objective and unbiased decision relative to tenure, promotion, and merit consideration for the faculty; Ensures assessment plans are developed, received and utilized on an annual basis and results reported in a timely manner; Involves the faculty/staff in formulating policies and procedures and in academic decision-making within the unit; Plans, development and allocate human/fiscal resources through appropriate consultation to focus on defined priorities; Adheres to required fiscal, personnel and physical control policies of the College/School/University; Promotes the welfare of faculty and staff and resolves conflicts fairly; Provides for the welfare of students/parents and resolve conflicts expeditiously and fairly; Not reluctant to make administrative/faculty changes to accomplish the mission of School and University; and meets deadlines and ensures faculty and staff do likewise.
Demonstrates loyalty to the University and supports its mission, goals, and organizational structure; Performs in a dedicated and effective manner the assigned administrative responsibilities within the University; Holds membership in professional organization; keeps current in field of expertise; and has self-improvement program; Establishes research stream evidenced by publications; and ability to secure external funding (preferred).
Doctorate Degree in health care management; administration or related arena; Ph.D. preferred;
Three years of experience in administrative field;
Three years of full-time teaching experience; curriculum development at an accredited four-year college or university;
Experience with developing and managing budgets;
Evidence of research productivity;
Demonstrative effective interpersonal communication, and management skills along with leadership potential and evidence of professional involvement in program accreditation (AUPHA and/or CAHME); and
Meets qualifications for associate or full professor.
