The Simulation and Clinical Practice Center Coordinator of the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing is a full-time, twelve-month staff position reporting to the Director of Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center. The Coordinator is responsible for managing and maintaining the Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center to provide a facilitative teaching/learning environment for students in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. It is the responsibility of the Coordinator, utilizing continuous quality improvement strategies, to ensure that the Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center contributes to the ability of the School of Nursing programs to provide quality state-of-the art educational programs. 

The Coordinator contributes to leadership and management responsibilities for nursing simulation education in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The Coordinator works in collaboration with the Director, faculty, and staff to support the university in achieving its goals for simulation across nursing programs, and for integration with the university community, fostering a collaborative environment in which simulation learning experiences are current and relevant for the practice of procedural simulation,clinical judgement, and best practice standards for simulation scenarios. The Coordinator, in collaboration with course faculty, and the Director, oversees student learning achievement and fosters excellence in the evaluation of student competencies.

  • Collaborates with faculty to design and develop clinical practice center activities to augment learning in clinical courses.
  • Consults with clinical coordinators/faculty about supplies, equipment, AV, and computer materials needed to support instruction.
  • Ensures that the Simulation and Clinical Practice Center follows all OSHA and work environment mandates.
  • Develops and maintains a catalog system for identification, retrieval, and inventory of equipment,supplies and clinical practice center resources.
  • Monitors maintenance and repair of equipment, supplies, laundry etc.
  • Supervises open lab periods assisting students with guided practice.
  • Prepares work schedule and assigns duties to simulation and clinical practice center associates,work study student(s), and graduate assistant(s).
  • Supports the development of course curricula with appropriate faculty and staff as it relates to simulation and clinical practice
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty to design and develop learning activities
  • Assures quality and integrity of academic learning, course curricula, services and operations according to best practices.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of simulation programs among users by working with the simulation and school faculty to establish priorities and maximize operational time.
  • Provides budget input to support nursing simulation and clinical practice center.
  • Assists with purchasing and management of all laboratory supplies and equipment including specialized equipment needed for simulation.
  • Assists with the preparation of the simulation labs for specific simulations, and anticipate the needs of the faculty and students.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation for the debrief of simulations with faculty and students.
  • Supports and oversees the development of instructor training in simulation pedagogy
  • Assists with orientation of faculty and students to principles of simulation training and debriefing techniques and provide faculty with related literature.
  • Actively participates in the development, preparation, and writing of grants to obtain equipment.
  • Assists in the review and update of simulation scenarios for accuracy and consistency with curriculum needs.
  • Attend continuing education events related to nursing simulation
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to support the use and efficiency of the Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center.
  • Oversees partnerships with clinical sites regarding planning and implementation of employee simulation-based training as directed.
  • Manages social media content for the Nursing Simulation and Clinical Practice Center
  • Obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Health care within 3 years of hire 


  • Master’s degree in Nursing from an institutionally accredited college or university
  • Unrestricted New York Licensure to practice as a registered nurse, BLS Certification Required
  • Five years’ experience in professional nursing practice
  • Experience supervising undergraduate nursing students in higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal,written, and verbal communication skills


  • Earned doctorate or candidate for the degree in nursing or a closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Experience in nursing simulation, either in an academic simulation center or healthcare organization with a strong simulation program;
  • Experience with managing within a simulation program
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare
