The Department of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) is excited to announce the recruitment of candidates for multiple new faculty positions. This is an open rank recruitment. Founded in 1976, BUSPH ranks as the sixth leading public health school in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. We offer master's- and doctoral-level education in public health along with post-doctoral training. With over 300 faculty in six departments, the School conducts policy-changing public health research, with the mission of improving the health of populations—especially the underserved—locally and globally.
The Department of Environmental Health is comprised of 20 primary faculty and is internationally recognized for innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching. We investigate the pressing environmental challenges of our time, including legacy and emerging contaminants, air pollution, and complex mixtures of chemical and non-chemical stressors in occupational and residential settings, and we investigate the impact of these exposures across the life course. Additionally, the school-wide Center for Climate and Health at BUSPH is led by environmental health faculty. Across all domains, we emphasize solutions-oriented work in partnership with communities, with explicit consideration of environmental racism and justice. Faculty who join the Department have access to BU’s world class computing facilities and faculty expertise, and the opportunity to collaborate with other university centers including the Institute for Global Sustainability, the Initiative on Cities, and the Center for Antiracist Research. Faculty receive mentorship and development opportunities to position them for success.
Qualifications. Candidates should have a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree in public health or a related field, demonstrated potential for outstanding scholarship through publication and/or externally funded research, as well as a commitment to graduate education and mentorship of students. Successful candidates will be expected to lead an independent research program, actively engage in collaborative research; participate in teaching and mentoring master’s and doctoral-level students; and provide stage-appropriate service to the department, university and profession. We especially welcome applicants who are passionate about environmental justice and strong communicators. The search is not focused on a specific area of environmental health, and we welcome applicants from diverse disciplines, including those with qualitative and quantitative backgrounds.
