Position Introduction

Our instructors collaborate within the college as discipline experts, helping the college to reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and promoting the college to future students throughout our community.
Position Summary
The PTA program at McHenry County College is seeking a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant to teach an introductory course to physical therapy. This course covers the introduction to physical therapy including the Illinois practice act, documentation, ethics, and communication. The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching the lecture component of the course, mentoring students as needed as well as assisting with lab practical's and accreditation work as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
Including but are not limited to:
- Teach courses as assigned by the College
- Available to teach daytime, evening, and weekend classes, as needed
- Available for student conferences either before or after class, and by College email or special appointment if necessary
- Participate with producing documentation relating to program accreditation standards to achieve and maintain accreditation
- Work cooperatively within the department, the division, and throughout the College in striving for educational excellence
- Keep apprised of external agency regulations and changes to regulations that directly impact a particular curriculum
- Assess student learning and participate in assessment of the PTA program
- Continue professional development in area of contemporary clinical expertise and in teaching/learning strategies
- Maintain and submit accurate student and course-related paperwork and data needed for College and grant purposes in a timely fashion
- Maintain and submit accurate attendance records.
Required Qualifications
- Current licensure (or eligibility) in Illinois as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
- If a Physical Therapist Assistant, earned Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution
- If a Physical Therapist, earned Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time (35 hr./wk. or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills
- Willingness to use educational technology (i.e. Canvas)
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy
Other Required Qualifications
- Contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas (CAPTE 3C & 4D)
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth, especially regarding contemporary expertise specific to assigned teaching content
- Commitment to teaching and motivating community college students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning stylesStrong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to and respect for diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion and MCC's Behaviors of Excellence
- Understanding of and commitment to the College mission, vision, values, and goals
- Ability to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and student evaluation (CAPTE 3C & 4D)
- If a PTA, earned Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited institution or enrolled in or desire to pursue undergraduate studies
- Member of the American Physical Therapy Association
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels
- Earned status as an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor, either Basic or Advanced
- Current knowledge and skill in use of educational technology (i.e. Canvas)
