Position Introduction
The Network Technician is an important part of the Infrastructure team and helps to ensure that MCC students and employees enjoy a network that is available and secure. As the Network Technician you will make a positive impact to MCC by ensuring that network and server equipment is up-to-date and secure. You will also have the opportunity to help all network users take advantage of the many services that that we provide.
Position Summary
Analyze, monitor and maintain the network resources of the College.
Reports to Director of Infrastructure and Security
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Analyze and ensure the stable performance, integrity, and security of the College network.
- Analyze, design, and modify network structures and test modifications required to support changed or new applications
- Install and maintain hardware and software on servers, PCs or other platforms
- Provide assistance and application training concerning the network or other applications
- Perform NAS/SAN (network attached storage/storage area network) management
- Maintain PCI/DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) integrity on all public facing servers/systems
- Ensure all College servers are regularly scanned for security vulnerabilities, and patched/fixed to maintain security compliance
- Maintain the virtualized server environment
- Perform network switch configuration programming and maintenance
- Perform intrusion prevention and detection tasks
- Analyze, program, and maintain systems and infrastructure that provides Internet connectivity to all students, staff, and the public
- Coordinate with IT vendors as required
- Perform firewall management and programming tasks
- Coordinate with other areas of the IT team on projects
- Implement, maintain, and document information security and general network procedures and processes
- Maintain documentation on hardware warranty, lease, and lifecycle status of all network infrastructure
- Manage "Test Bed" environments
- Manage, program, and monitor network operations center components
- Provide technical support to the Help Desk and provide timely feedback regarding installation/repair requests to end users
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
- Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Education Associate's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
Other Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Information Systems or related discipline; or equivalent job related experience
- Five years' experience with the following:
o Supporting a medium to large size network environment
o Supporting a TCP/IP network infrastructure environment
o Supporting network switches and routers
o Supporting microcomputer hardware and software systems
o Windows 10, Windows 2012-2019 Server, Macintosh 10.x operating systems
o Firewalls; Palo Alto, Cisco ASA
- Experience with Windows 2012-2019, Windows 10, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop
- Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting and MS Office products
- Experience with Sophos EDR
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Linux, VMWare ESXi/VSphere, 6.7/7.0 operating systems preferred
