Job Description




The College of Nursing and Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg (HSC) invite applications to fill an Assistant or Associate Professor tenured or tenure track position (#28012). This is a University of Manitoba College of Nursing full-time appointment and is jointly funded with the HSC Department of Nursing and has a clinical research focus. The appointee must have a PhD with registration as an active practicing RN in the Province of Manitoba. Research experience in a tertiary care setting that emphasizes clinical nurse inquiry, innovation, patient/family engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration is preferred.

The College of Nursing is one of five colleges within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) at the University of Manitoba. The College of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program is a concept-based curriculum and has a state of the art simulation program. The BN program is also delivered in partnership with the University College of the North in The Pas and Thompson. A new Bachelor of Midwifery program is in development. The Aboriginal Nursing Cohort Initiative (ANCI) provides students with Indigenous ancestry with academic and personal supports to facilitate success. At the graduate level, the College of Nursing offers a Master’s Program with four streams, including Nurse Practitioner (NP), administration, education and clinical practice streams. In addition, the College offers a PhD Program in Nursing.

The College of Nursing has three Research Chairs: a Canada Research Chair in Child and Family Engagement in Health Research and Healthcare; a Manitoba Research Chair in Caregiver Communication, and a Clinical Scientist, Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program. The College has clinical practice and research links with other universities nationally and internationally and with a number of research institutes in Manitoba. The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR), a research unit within the College of Nursing, is the only research centre in Manitoba that is solely dedicated to facilitating and supporting collaborative nursing and health research. The College of Nursing has a strong commitment to the Indigenous community, to accessibility and diversity, and to a wide range of practice environments. Research, Scholarly Work and Other Creative Activities (approximately 50%)

  • Maintain an ongoing program of funded research that aligns with HSC’s Patients First Research Plan (2018) and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Research Framework available at
  • Attract and successfully manage research grants from internal and external funding agencies.
  • Engage in other scholarly work and creative activities as related to HSC’s strategic direction, the nursing discipline and field of expertise.
  • Publish results of scholarship/research in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Provide research leadership and assist colleagues to increase their research skills and outputs.


Clinical Chair and Service (approximately 40%)

Work effectively as part of the leadership team at HSC.

  • Ensure alignment with the priorities and strategic directions at HSC.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship as a clinical chair, implementing and evaluating best practice at HSC.
  • Take a key role in developing and creating nursing knowledge through research that directly impacts patient care.
  • Provide research leadership and assist colleagues to increase their research skills and outputs.
  • Participate in the governance of the University through active membership on College and Faculty councils.
  • Engage in community service related to and as appropriate to HSC’s priority areas, platforms, and partners, the nursing discipline and field of expertise.
  • Assist in formulation and implementation of the College’s research plans, strategies and objectives.
  • Demonstrate sound interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships and to effectively represent the College of Nursing within and outside the University.
  • Develop partnerships with professional, multidisciplinary teams, industry, and government organizations to further education, research, and clinical nursing practice.
  • Promote awareness of the role of the clinical chair position.


 Teaching (approximately 10%)

  • Participate in the development, revision and coordination of leading edge undergraduate and graduate courses in the nursing care of children, adults, and families experiencing an acute illness, as well as other courses such as nursing leadership, research, and evidence-informed practice.
  • Provide high quality mentorship to graduate students through the development, implementation, and evaluation of thesis/capstone projects.
