The Admissions & Data Counselor reviews and suggests preliminary decisions on medical school applications, communicates and counsels prospective applicants, and responds to admissions email and other college inquiries. This individual develops and maintains relationships with those applicants moving forward in the application process. Ideal applicants will have work experience in University or College Admissions along with strong data analysis and presentation skills. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.


Position Highlights:

  • This position offers "hybrid" work flexibility.

  • Must be available after standard work hours for department events and willing to travel overnight for events on occasion (less than 5% travel).


Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing a holistic review process, reviews AMCAS and Rush Medical College Secondary applications and Letters of Reference in order to determine eligibility for interview.

  • Counsels/advises prospective applicants on application improvement and strategies, included but not limited to those historically underrepresented, first generation, DACA, alumni connections, and previously unsuccessful applicants. This includes application review of experiences, metrics, and general strategies for applying.

  • Accurately communicates both internally and externally, medical college admission requirements and application process, providing guidance and assistance to applicants.

  • Provides informational materials and counseling services for prospective students. Maintains Rush Medical College's Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) profile.

  • Partners with the Dean and Director of Admissions and Recruitment, and the Office of Integrated Medical Education Database Analyst, to lead a data-informed recruiting operation.

  • Develops and maintains dashboards to track and analyze the application review, interview, and Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) stages of the admissions and recruitment cycle.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive evaluation of the holistic review process, which includes but is not limited to evaluation of demographic inputs, admission metrics, background, and experiences.

  • Liaises between Rush Medical College and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) by overseeing the administration of the AAMC's AMCAS for Schools portal.

  • Establishes and maintains ongoing communication and recruitment efforts with applicants upon invitation of the Rush Secondary Application and continuing through the application process.

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with key educational stakeholders.

  • Conducts presentations and represents the Office of Integrated Medical Education at information sessions, medical school and residency fairs, workshops, seminars, panels, and other recruitment events.


Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.

  • At least three (3) years of experience in higher education admissions and recruitment required.

  • Experience with data analysis.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to engage large and small groups in a variety of settings.

  • Detailed-oriented and highly organized.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and interact with others in a professional and cordial manner.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for applicants, student, residents, and/or graduates (alumni).

  • Ability to work collaboratively and support diversity of prospective students, community constituents, staff, faculty, and other parties connected to this position.

  • Proven ability to set and maintain a standard for a high volume of productivity in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • This position will require some evening and weekend responsibilities, and occasional travel including overnight stays.
