Job Description

Graduate Assistants – Athletics Academic Year 2022-2023

Overview:
Cardinal Stritch University is currently seeking qualified candidates for our Athletics department. We are actively recruiting for MW Soccer, Track and Field/Cross Country, and MW Tennis in all facets of coaching/teaching/mentoring the student-athletes on the softball team. These positions will assist with the management of our Athletics program, including recruiting and assigned administrative duties. Candidates must maintain full time status in an eligible Cardinal Stritch University graduate program

Responsibilities:

Coaching

  • Attend practices, home and away matches/tournaments, training sessions, team functions on a regular basis
  • Assist with the teaching/coaching/mentoring of student-athletes
    (Instruction in development drills, instruction in proper techniques specific to that sport, coaching game strategy, instruction in proper strength and conditioning)
  • Assist with practice preparation, game day preparation, and weight training
  • Opponent scouting

Recruiting and assigned administrative duties

  • Assist in scheduling team’s opponents
  • Assist in arranging travel needs (transportation, hotels, and meals) with Head Coach and Director of Athletics
  • Assist in the arrangement of referees for all home contests and review all contracts/contest agreements
  • Assist in the coordination of practice /game day facilities and times
  • Being able to meet with recruits during campus visits and virtual visits
  • Attend recruiting, staff and/or institution meetings /events when required

Player Development

  • Assist in the monitoring/mentoring of student-athletes to ensure they are performing to standard in classes for academic eligibility
  • Teach/educate/mentor individual student-athletes assisting them in NAIA and CCAC compliance and eligibility/progress towards degree requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Maintain full time status in an eligible Cardinal Stritch University graduate program
  • Bachelor’s degree is required in journalism, communication, sport management or a related field
  • At least one year of working experience in the college or professional sports communications fields.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • A valid driver’s license (travel by car may be required)
  • National license or certification in specific sport for coaching, if available
  • CPR/AED training as required by American Red Cross
  • OSHA (Bloodborne Pathogen)
  • Sexual Harassment Training
  • Completion of NAIA Champions of Character New Coach assessment
