JOB SUMMARY:

The Biology Department at Lincoln University is searching for a qualified individual to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. This position will begin August 2022. Applicants are required to hold a doctoral degree in developmental biology or a closely related field, as well as previous teaching experience using high impact practices, a strong interest in teaching undergraduates, postdoctoral experience, and the potential to develop a research program that involves undergraduate students and is consistent with the capabilities of an undergraduate institution. The applicant should be able to teach developmental biology and related courses, assist in teaching biology core courses, particularly Human Anatomy and Physiology, and teach and develop electives related to their area of expertise. The successful candidate will join the faculty of an active and dynamic department with approximately 130 majors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching undergraduate Developmental Biology and other biology lecture and laboratory courses during the fall and spring semesters for a total of 24 credits per academic year (12 credits per semester).
  • Assessing student learning.
  • Participating in scholarly activities such as research and publications and seeking funding for those activities.
  • Advising and mentoring students and performing faculty-related services as assigned.
  • Serving on faculty committees.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
  • Earned PhD in developmental biology or related discipline.
  • Postdoctoral experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • College-level teaching experience in an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Potential to develop a research program consistent with the capabilities of an undergraduate institution and be able to support existing research programs that involve undergraduate students.
  • Strong promise of effectiveness in teaching (including advising), creative or scholarly achievement, and valuable service to the university, community, and profession.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that support diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse organization.
  • Proficiency in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions supporting the department's mission and goals.
  • High level of professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including possible evening and weekend work. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
