Job Description
Tennessee State University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is recruiting a Public
Health Director for the public health programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Master of Public Health (MPH), and a
potential Ph.D. program.
This is a 12 month, tenure-track position at the Associate Professor rank. Applicants must possess a
terminal degree in Public Health/ Ph.D/ Dr. PH with a specialty in any of the following concentrations: Epidemiology, Behavioral Science and
Health Education, Environmental Health, Health Policy, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; Biostatistics, or Health Disparities and
cultural competence; or a degree in medicine (MD) or dentistry (DDS) with a master's degree in public health (MPH). Applicants who hold
other Allied Health degrees will be considered.
The Director's responsibilities include development, implementation and management of
public health programs; recruitment of students and faculty; mentoring students, budget management, and developing and maintaining strong
and positive relationships with professionals in the health care community in Middle Tennessee and beyond.
Minimum
Qualifications/Experience
This is a 12 month, tenure-track position at the Associate Professor rank. Applicants must possess a

Health Education, Environmental Health, Health Policy, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; Biostatistics, or Health Disparities and
cultural competence; or a degree in medicine (MD) or dentistry (DDS) with a master's degree in public health (MPH). Applicants who hold
other Allied Health degrees will be considered.
The candidate should have taught a minimum of five (5) years at the university level.
Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong evidence of academic leadership; graduate teaching experience; a history of scholarly
productivity; a proven record of grantsmanship; experience with accreditation; and a commitment to community outreach. The candidate should
have earned 18 credit hours of doctoral preparation in the health field minimally. The candidate should also have experience in
collaborative and multidisciplinary teaching and research.
