Lab Tech I - Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory, Dr. Clodagh O'Shea

This position will be assisting senior lab members and graduate students in support of academic research projects. The work will be a combination of experimental work and data analysis. The experimental aspects will primarily include molecular and cellular biology works such as cell culture, protein, DNA and RNA expression studies, cloning, and microscopy works. The data analysis aspects will include processing of imaging and sequencing data.  Prior experience with wet lab techniques is highly preferred. The intern will be trained to design and conduct molecular and cellular biology, and some virology studies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lab Support 

• Responsible for the preparation of reagents and research chemicals
• Responsible for stocking and organizing incoming lab supplies
• Responsible for cleaning glassware and equipment as needed

Molecular and Cellular Biology 

• Isolating DNA, RNA, and Protein from cells
• Generating plasmids by DNA cloning
• Quantifying Protein by Western Blot
• Imaging cells by microscope

Data processing 

• Performing statistical analyses on experimental results
• Producing visualizations of results
• Quantification of the microscopy images

EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Prior experience in a laboratory setting.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with basic wet-lab techniques, such as pipetting and reagent preparation.

• Prior lab experience (or executing independent projects).

EDUCATION

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.

Preferred:

• Undergraduate coursework in biology, virology, cognitive science, statistics, data structures or equivalent academic experience.
