The Department of Biology at Pittsburg State University invites applications for a 9 month tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in biology, anatomy, physiology, or related fields, with expertise in Human Physiology. At least two years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience and evidence of ability to teach at a professional school level are preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and be skilled in methods of engaged learning, the use of instructional technology, and directing undergraduate and graduate research. A balance between innovative teaching, original research, extensive advising of students on the pre-health career track, and service to the university are central components of this position.
Teaching responsibilities will include Human Physiology for pre-medical and other pre-health students, including lecture and laboratory components. Additional upper-level courses such as Development, Neurobiology, Pathophysiology, and others that complement existing upper division classes to be developed based on candidate's area of expertise; also potentially introductory courses such as Anatomy & Physiology or Principles of Biology may be assigned, depending on departmental needs. Other expectations include ability to conduct independent research and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
