Job Description

The Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences (CBHS) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a full-time, benefited, 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in Biology. The desired start date is January 2023. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related discipline at the time of the appointment. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to excellence in instruction. Candidates are expected to teach genetics and courses in their interested areas. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate potential to develop and maintain an externally funded research program that complements those of the current faculty and builds on the strengths of the department and interdisciplinary graduate programs. Candidates with research areas in biology for environment, health, or related areas are encouraged to apply. Modest start-up will be provided including support for a graduate student.

The CBHS Department offers an undergraduate degree in Biology, an ACS-certified undergraduate degree in Chemistry, and an undergraduate degree in Pre-professional Health Sciences. The department offers a MS degree in Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Faculty in the department also participate in multidisciplinary graduate programs ( and collaborate with the Research Centers on campus. Research areas currently being pursued by CBHS faculty include biomedical science, biotechnology, biochemistry, environmental science, epidemiology, sustainable and materials chemistry, and deep underground science.
