Position Title: Director of Global Engagement

 

Job Description:

The Director Global Engagement works with international students on F and J visas, and works with faculty on facilitating study abroad for the University. The Director of Global Engagement is responsible for the admission process of international students; support services for Missouri Western's international students, including orientation programs and comprehensive programs to enhance the international student experience throughout the year; provides university-wide leadership in international federal regulatory compliance, advisement, and programming for international students and exchange visitors; analyzes , interprets, and applies federal regulations pertaining to International Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors, develops procedures compliant with government requirements for international programs; services as Primary Designated Official (PDSO) for the F-1 visa program and Responsible Officer (RO) for the J-1 visa program as authorized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State, respectively.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provides support services for international students including individual and group advising; comprehensive student orientation; and advisement for international student groups.
  • Provides training for faculty and staff across campus to enable them to work effectively with international students and provides leadership and strategic support for university-side international/intercultural programs as part of a comprehensive programming model.
  • Works in cooperation with the Admissions office to admit international students to the University and works with faculty in efforts related to Study Abroad and Student and Faculty Exchange programs.
  • Provides university-wide leadership in international federal regulatory compliance and advisement; analyzes, interprets, and applies federal regulations pertaining to International Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors ensuring compliance. 
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and three years' experience related to international student advising/counseling in a higher education environment, ability and experience in managing SEVIS systems.
  • Significant experience in working with immigration regulations particularly with F visas and J visas and evidence of effective collaboration with faculty
  • Experience as a PDSO (or DSO) and ARO
  • or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and ability to provide international student immigration advising
  • In depth knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal laws, regulations and policies related to international students and scholars
  • International student programming and support strategies.
  • Computer applications
  • Working knowledge of DoS, DHS, and SEVIS requirements
  • Strong organization and presentation skills
  • Interpersonal and intercultural communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to support international students in a higher education environment.
  • Experience traveling/studying internationally

Master's Degree

 

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary Work
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. Federal regulations requirement for an (PDSO/ADO/DSO);
  • Valid Driver's license

 

Hours of Work

M-F 8:00am-4:30pm
