Core Faculty, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy

Job Overview:

Under the general guidance of the Department Chair, the Core Faculty, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy oversees providing instruction for courses in the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy programs, supporting student learning and outcome measurements, supervising student thesis projects, engaging in committee work, providing clinical supervision to students on practicum, participating in program development, and student academic advising. The Core Faculty, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy participates in monthly Faculty Council and weekly Program meetings on campus as well as leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote mission and vision of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology department and the institution.  Supports culture development and management efforts.

Education/Experience:

• A Doctoral Level (PhD/PsyD) in Psychology or PhD in Counseling or a PhD in Art Therapy with a Master's degree or above in Counseling and or Art Therapy is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years progressive counseling and supervising experience required with a strong record of teaching, clinical work, and thesis supervision experience at the graduate level as well as a strong record of participation in training activities, including provision of clinical supervision to trainees is required.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid Mental Health Counsellor License along with the attainment of the ATR-BC, RCC, or RCAT designation is required.

• Proficient and functional knowledge of program development and community liaising.
• Record of scholarship related to Counseling Psychology or Counselor
• Knowledge of several theoretical orientations in order to supervise students during their clinical practicum.
• Commitment to training counsellors to work with marginalized and underserved populations, in keeping with the Adler University's emphasis on social justice and socially responsible practice.
• Strong skills in networking, creating and maintaining relationships, problem solving, diplomacy and stepping into sensitive conversations inviting self-reflexivity and inclusiveness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversees the instruction and teaching of courses in areas of expertise.
• Participation in curriculum development, and program advocacy.
• Ensures timely and effective student advising and mentoring, doctoral dissertation supervision.
• Actively participates in relevant committee work (e.g., faculty welfare committees, diversity committee, research ethics committee).
• Other duties as assigned and/or required.

Work Environment (Physical Demands):  The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
