Position Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences (https://biology.eku.edu/) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track appointment to begin August 15, 2022. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the department's undergraduate and graduate degree (MS) programs. Primary courses to be taught will be assigned based on the candidate's expertise and departmental needs, which may include Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolution, Principles of Microbiology, and Clinical Microbiology. During the first year, the teaching load will be 9 hours per semester. However, the typical teaching load is 12 hours per semester, with the possibility of reassigned time with extramural funding or student research projects.
The successful candidate will establish an active microbiology research laboratory (BSL 2 level or lower) and mentor undergraduate and graduate (MS) students. Areas of research may include, but are not limited to, pathogenic microbiology, eukaryotic microbiology, and food microbiology. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in pre-professional advising of Biomedical Science majors. Applicants should submit a brief letter of interest, a current CV, a statement of research accomplishments and goals that includes a description of how collaborations can enhance their research impact, a statement of teaching interests, and contact information for three references. Application review will begin 5 January 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in biology or a related field from an accredited or internationally recognized institution.
Desired Qualifications:
Candidates with a strong background in medical, clinical, or pathogenic microbiology are encouraged to apply. Post-doctoral experience preferred.
