Summary of Duties/Qualifications:

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for multiple full-time career track teaching faculty positions in Computer Science. Positions will be based either at the WSU main campus in Pullman, WA or the WSU campus in Everett, WA based on the teaching needs.

Candidates will be required to have a Master's (PhD preferred) in Computer Science or a related discipline by August 15, 2022.

Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following: prior teaching or teaching assistantship experience, curriculum development experience (classroom, online), leadership potential, industry experience/potential to foster industry partnerships, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to diversifying the student body.

The positions will be considered for either a fixed term appointment (with renewal contingent upon performance) or a continuous appointment depending on the following qualifications:

1. For consideration toward a continuous appointment, the candidate should have had at least 3 years of teaching experience and/or a PhD.
2. Recent graduates and graduate students expecting to graduate by August 2022 who have a passion for teaching core undergraduate level computer science courses are strongly encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates at all levels will be considered.
3. Candidates with no prior experience but who meet necessary educational qualifications will be considered for the Scholarly Assistant Professor rank.
4. Candidates to be considered for the Scholarly Associate Professor rank should have either a PhD with at least 3 years of teaching experience or a master's with at least 5 years of teaching or relevant industry experience.
5. Candidates to be considered for the Scholarly Full Professor rank should have a PhD with at least 10 years of teaching or relevant industry experience.

Job Duties:
The job duties of successful candidates include:
  • Curriculum development;
  • Advising students;
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in computer science (including lower level programming courses, introductory data structures and systems courses, and junior and senior level electives);
  • Interfacing with industry;
  • Participating in continuous teaching assessment activities;
  • Effectively communicating and interacting with students;
  • Supporting student recruitment activities; and
  • Collaborating with others within the School, the University, or other organizations.
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS):
The new faculty hired for this position will join 45 existing tenure-track and career- track faculty members in the School of EECS, which has experienced rapid growth in enrollment over the past four years. Around the fall of 2020, approximately 1000 undergraduate students were enrolled in its B.S., and B.A programs, and 275 graduate students are enrolled in its M.S., and Ph.D. programs in computer science, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. EECS expects continued increase in enrollments and anticipates multiple faculty hires over the next two years. The current faculty composition in the School of EECS includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and ten fellows of national professional organizations as well as fourteen CAREER and Young Investigator award recipients. Our graduate students have recently won multiple prestigious awards including Microsoft Research fellowship, IBM Research fellowship, and NSF Computing Innovation fellowship.
