Position Description
Professor Melissa Dell (Harvard Economics Department) is seeking a Japanese speaking pre-doctoral fellow with an interest in data science. The position will involve working on papers related to political economy and economic development in historical Japan, with an emphasis on curating novel data sources using deep learning powered methods.Responsibilities include:
1) Exploration of relevant historical and social science literatures and archival materials;
2) Building training datasets for deep learning data curation pipelines;
3) Preparing transparent, interactive data visualizations;
4) Conducting statistical analyses; and
5) Literature reviews.
Anticipated start date August 1, 2022, though flexible.
The position is fully paid, and a visa can be arranged.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree by start date.Japense fluency required.
Experience with R or Python.
