Overview

The Department of Aviation and Technical Education at Utah State University, is offering a position at the Professional Practice Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will assist with coordinating Apprentice Programs in Southeast Utah. 

This position is a non-tenure track fiscal-year (12-month) appointment.  The primary role assignment is teaching (95%) and the successful candidate will lead the apprenticeship training programs in Southeast Utah. All faculty members are also expected to make positive contributions to the University through a service role (5%).  This faculty position is located on the Utah State University (USU) Eastern campus in Price, Utah.  Estimated start date is July 1, 2022.



Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant for this position will provide teaching excellence in the Career and Technical Education programs spanning the southeast region with students being served at the USU Eastern, USU Moab, and USU Blanding campuses.
  • The teaching assignment will focus upon the Apprentice programs specifically, and more generally involve curriculum management within the technical education programs, and stackable degree programs within AVTE.
  • The department has traditionally offered Electrical Apprentice, and recently was charged to add HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding.
  • The successful candidate will coordinate with licensing organizations (i.e. DOPL, and trade unions) as well as develop working relationships with appropriate industry partners.
  • All modalities of course/programming are used within the context of CTE programs.
  • The department also encourages scholarly disciplinary contributions to the academy, recognizing these contributions as an expectation for promotion considerations.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team skills.
  • Ability and desire to teach and mentor postsecondary CTE students at USU.
  • Ability to provide innovative curricular approaches to CTE programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Employment at a post-secondary institution and experience.
  • Master's degree or higher in a degree program closely related to Career and Technical Education
  • Experience with distance education technology and strategies.
  • Success in obtaining funding to support sustainable academic projects.
