Job Description

The Department of Physics, housed in the Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position for the rank of Assistant Professor. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply though we particularly encourage candidates with prior teaching experience in physics at community or four year college level. Preference will be given to candidates who foster a culture of diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service. This appointment begins fall 2022.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Conducting research involving undergraduate students.
  • Service to the department, college, university, and field.
  • Other duties as assigned by department head.


Required Education & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Physics and postdoctoral work with substantial research experience in any area of physics
  • A solid record of published research commensurate with years since receiving Ph.D.
  • Candidates must be able and willing to teach courses in Physical Science, General Physics, and University Physics lecture and laboratory courses; able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with departmental colleagues in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded undergraduate research program focused on advancing the science of their expertise.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
