Job Description



Core Faculty position in the Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program. Position duties include teaching in the Public Policy and Administration program (MPPA), co-supervising or serving as Second Reader of capstone projects, and effectively mentoring graduate students in the MPPA program. Core Faculty hold expertise and experience in the areas of public policy, public administration, or a related field that allows for teaching within the MPPA program.

The Department is currently looking for faculty to teach in a variety of areas, including Public Sector Governance; Public Policy Analysis; Economy and Economic Analysis; Social Program Planning and Implementation; Principles of Community Psychology; Foundations of Community Development; Advocacy Strategy and Tactics for Social Change; Ethics, Diversity and Socially Responsible Practice; International Justice Studies including Global Governance Mechanisms and Contemporary Issues in Global Justice. Other duties include service on various University committees, student advising, and review of admissions applications. 


  • Master's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field is required.  Doctorate in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field that allows for teaching within the MPPA program, is preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of public policy related experience is required



  • Demonstrate a strong record and aptitude of graduate-level teaching
  • Exemplify the scholar-practitioner training model in terms of curriculum design and/or delivery
  • Strong proficiency in community-engaged scholarship and other professional activities related to public policy and/or public administration
  • Demonstrated commitment to socially responsible practice, social justice issues, and diversity are important
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and train culturally diverse students with proven teaching strategies
  • A sufficient mix of academic training and professional work experience outside of academe applicable to public policy/administration, including research, analysis, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Specialized training or expertise in applied research in public and not-for-profit settings, public policy analysis, public sector governance (including indigenous governance structures and mechanisms), economic analysis, and/or program design, implementation, and evaluation, preferred
  • Ability to consistently identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations based on observations
  • Strong demonstration of alignment with Adler's social justice mission and vision
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and visioning acumen
  • Ability to proactively identify challenges and barriers to stated objective and employ assistance in addressing these
  • Strong collaboration acumen and abilities
  • Demonstration of Emotional Intelligence and professional maturity
  • Proficient and functional knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong research acumen and abilities
  • Strong communication acumen including written, oral, and listening

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaches in the Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program, (co-) supervises Capstone projects, and effectively mentors graduate students.
  • Supports the Program Director in SLOAP reporting.
  • Serves on various University committees, student advising, and reviews of admissions applications.

Work Environment (Physical Demands):  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
