Job Description



Under the general guidance of the Manager, Community Engagement & Action, The SJP Adjunct Faculty will facilitate workshop modules and grade assignments that co-occur with students' practicum experience.  The content reviewed in the modules focuses on civics, intersectionality, and community organizing; all of which pertain to both the mission of Adler University and the missions of Community Partners who host students for the Social Justice Practicum.

The SJP Online Adjunct Faculty leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of the Social Justice Practicum program and the institution. Supports culture development and management efforts.



  • Master's Degree in Critical Race Theory, US History, or allied field required. Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience teaching in an online higher education environment required. Experience teaching graduate students preferred.
  • Specialized training in community organizing desired.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitates content covering civics, intersectionality, and community organizing
  • Monitors and provides feedback to discussion boards
  • Monitors students' completion of online exercises
  • Facilitates live dialogue sessions with students
  • Provides follow up to SJP Online Coordinator regarding SJP placement issues
  • Provides updates to SJP Online Coordinator for reporting students' progress through modules for the purposes of grading.



  • Timely enrollment and successful completion of the Adler Online Technology & Pedagogy Course.
  • Updates course syllabi with dates and instructor's information.
  • Makes online course data available to students in a timely way.
  • Welcomes and gives feedback to every student in the Introductions Forum during the first week.
  • Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom discussions in online forums.
  • Checks e-mail at least twice per day and answers all student questions within 24 hours.
  • Escalates any student concerns that cannot be resolved at the instructor level to Program Director within 24 hours.
  • Evaluates and grades students' class work, assignments and papers within 48 hours.
  • Maintains student attendance records.
  • Responds to all communication from Program Director within 24 hours.
  • Participates in mandatory webinars & activities scheduled by Adler Online.


Work Environment (Physical Demands):  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
