Director of Marketing

Job Summary

Department leadership, supervision and administration of the marketing team.

  • Hire, lead, supervise, and direct department and contract personnel.
  • Identify vendors and partners to supplement professional staff. Manage contracts, assign work, process invoices.
  • Lead and develop an innovative team based on the core values of grit, humility and heart.
  • Collaborate with Project Coordinator and Director of Communications on continuous process improvements that increase the capacity of our team.
  • Responsible for university-wide brand and marketing strategic efforts.
  • Know and care deeply about our key audiences; be articulate about what they want and need to know about MSU Moorhead to get excited about being/becoming a Dragon. Create innovative marketing projects that actively engage these key audiences.
  • Raise awareness and strengthen MSU Moorhead's brand reputation by leading distinctive and results-driven marketing and creative strategies.
  • Manage advertising campaigns, media planning and buying efforts across all digital and traditional media.
  • Ensure cohesive implementation of brand standards across all marketing channels, publications and platforms.
  • Responsible for college and program marketing efforts.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Academic leadership.
  • Collaborate with Academic leadership to create marketing work plans that support their strategic plans and program growth.
  • Lead monthly meetings with College Engagement Committees for each college.
  • Lead the planning, development and execution of marketing strategies for degree programs.
  • Measure the results of program marketing efforts and report regularly to partners.


Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business or other appropriate field.
  • One year of previous supervisory experience or any combination of experience leading work direction with supervisory experience totaling one year.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.


  • Demonstrated skill in marketing planning, change management/stakeholder engagement and communication.
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate teams.
  • Expertise building visibility and positive perceptions through various
    Type of Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in marketing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading and sustaining change through communication
  • Advanced Degree from an accredited instruction in a relevant field

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires successful completion of the following:
  • In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
