Full Time Lecturer - Applied Statistics


Lecturer with expertise in applied statistics to teach core introductory courses to Master's students in Applied Statistics. Teaching experience at the college, graduate, or K-12 levels is preferred. Experience teaching with R is preferred. Initial appointment will be for one year, but renewal is a possibility.

Program Information:

The Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics program is part of the Human Development Department at Teachers College. The program group includes six full-time faculty (including Lecturers/Visiting Professors) plus adjunct faculty. The graduate student population in the program group includes candidates in our Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs in Measurement and Evaluation, as well as those enrolled in the M.S. in Applied Statistics. Faculty in the program teach core statistics courses required for graduate students in the program as well as several introductory and intermediate service courses for graduate students across Teachers College. Course enrollments usually range between 15 and 40 students, depending on the course.


Teach 5 graduate courses per year as requested by the department. Possible courses include HUDM 4125 (calculus-based probability and statistical inference), HUDM 5126 (regression analysis with applications in R), HUDM 5123 (experimental design and ANOVA) as well as other intermediate courses. Advise and mentor Masters students in our M.S. in Applied Statistics program. Participate actively and collegially in departmental activities.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in statistics or quantitative methods
  • Experience with teaching and advising students at graduate or undergraduate level

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework in a social sciences discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, education)
  • Experience in applications of statistical methods in social science or education
