Job Description

The University of Washington School of Law is seeking to fill one Assistant Teaching professor position.  This position will teach American Legal System and Methods, Foundations in American Law, Intensive Legal Writing, and other bar-preparatory courses.  This role will also supervise fellows who provide tutoring and mentorship in legal writing for first year law students. Funds to support this role will be from graduate program revenue. Additional course offerings may be assigned depending on student needs. Candidates must have significant experience with Academic Success programs which are essential to the Law School’s DEI mission and its goal of raising bar passage rates among both graduate students (many of whom are international) and J.D. students. We currently offer bar preparation in multiple forms: intensive writing workshops, a series of bar preparation presentations, independent studies, and a two-quarter bar preparation course with enrollment limited to students given permission by the instructor.  Excellent classroom teaching, individual supervision and cultural competence skills required.  The law school is seeking candidates with a J.D, as well as substantial legal practice experience and admission to the bar in a U.S. jurisdiction. The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Although these positions do not require scholarship, publications are viewed favorably.

All UW faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

This is a 9 month position - September through June of every academic year.  This position is a non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of September 2022.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or foreign equivalent
  • Experience partnering with business organizations
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship
