Position description
Part time non-tenure track lectureships with Revelle College in the Humanities Program at UC San Diego will be available for the 2022-2023 academic year. Appointments vary from one to three quarters.
The Humanities Program is a core text and writing program that offers five interdisciplinary, chronologically arranged courses in the literature and thought of the Western humanistic tradition to undergraduates in Revelle College. The program emphasizes the development of skills in critical thinking and formal, persuasive writing. The sequence of courses, Humanities 1 through 5, meets the humanities and writing requirement of Revelle College. Instruction in university-level writing is part of all five courses, but students in Humanities 1 and 2 (six units each) receive intensive writing instruction.
Per the AFT Unit 18 Agreement, Applicants internal to the UCSD Department of Humanities who had an appointment in 2021-2022 and apply by the initial review date will be considered before all other applicants.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A Ph.D. or terminal degree in a humanistic field (such as Literature, Philosophy, and History) is required by the start of appointment.
Preferred qualifications
Teaching experience in large classes (over 100 students)
A record of excellent teaching directly relevant to the program and demonstrating an ability to make challenging texts accessible to undergraduate students
An ability to work effectively with students representing diverse backgrounds, interests, and levels of preparation
Demonstrated experience and commitment in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity in an academic setting.
