The Opportunity

The School of Economics is one of the largest in the Faculty of Business and Economics. The University seeks to appoint a Professor in Economics and/or Head of School. The successful candidate will be required to provide academic leadership for the School in teaching, research and consultancy, conduct and guide the development of the School’s profile, lecture in Economics at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, engage in consultancy work, contribute to the administrative functions of the School, Faculty and the University, and to participate in the School’s expanding flexible learning programme including the development of multi-media instructional courses and materials. He/she will supervise Postgraduate research students and contribute to building a stronger research profile for the school. The appointee will also work with other regional and international organisations, engage in consultancy services and contribute to the development of the academic program in the School.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must have: A PhD in Economics with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification and significant (normally 10 years) tertiary teaching experience; A good record of Postgraduate supervision; Expertise in Development Economics and sound knowledge of quantitative methods; and A strong record of publications in leading economics journals.

Preference will be given to applicants with: Outstanding research and publications record in leading economics journals; Practical knowledge of statistical software’s; Proven record of supervision of graduate research students; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and lead team work; Demonstrated experience in high impact consultancies and policy-oriented research; and Excellent oral and written English language skills.
