The University of the South Pacific seeks to fill the position of Assistant Lecturer/ Lecturer in Geospatial Science in the School of Geography, Earth Science and Environment. The appointee will have expertise in the application and/or teaching of GIS, remote sensing, and global satellite navigation systems.
The appointee will:
Teach undergraduate courses in GIS, remote sensing, and geographic techniques and methods;
Develop research in his/her area of expertise and apply for external research funding;
Develop and teach short courses for distance and flexible learning (continuing education); and
Undertake administrative tasks as required by the School, Faculty and University.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
For appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level; A recent (within 3 years) PhD and at least one ranked publication; Or in exceptional cases candidates with Masters Qualification in Geospatial Science, Geography or a cognate discipline and QoR threshold of meeting performance expectation at the Lecturer and some years relevant Tertiary Teaching experience and Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching or equivalent; the position is reserved for citizen of USP member countries as the main point for regional staff; expertise in one or more disciplines with Geospatial Science.
For appointment at the Lecturer level: PhD in Geospatial Science, Geography or a cognate discipline and meeting the QoR of the Lecturer level and normally four (4) years tertiary teaching experience; Preference will be given to those who already possess a teaching qualification and Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (PGCTT) or equivalent.
Preference will be given to applicants with: Publication record in international refereed journals; Experience working and/or teaching in developing countries; Experience with one or more of the following: ArcGIS, QGIS, Image Analysis and Processing, Python; and Experience in Distance Teaching and Flexible Learning.
