Position Introduction
The McHenry County College Trio Upward Bound Program is seeking multiple instructors for a six-week academic summer program. Applicants must possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and the creativity to respond to student learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches without compromising course content. Excellent interpersonal skills a must. 
Position Summary
The Instructor will provide instruction in the varied subjects e.g., Creative Writing, Lab Science, Biology, Foreign Language, Math, VEX Robotics, STEM or related field that coordinates with high school students from 9th to 11th grades.
Reports to Director of Upward Bound Program
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Incorporate laboratory activities
- Analyze student needs
- Answer student questions and clarify areas of concern
- Assist students with homework, projects, class assignments and college applications
- Assist staff with college readiness workshops
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Education Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Other Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in subject area, Science, STEAM, STEM or related field,
- High school teaching experience
- One (1) plus years work related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills, as well as effective organizational and time management skills
- Must be comfortable wearing professional dress attire
- Be sensitive to the needs of a diverse populations
- Have the ability to travel to various summer sites to provide onsite support to assist the Upward Bound staff, if needed
- Be able to pass a criminal background test
- Be available the first week of June for a week of training
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Teaching License
- TRIO alumni or experience working with TRIO students
- Experience working with teenager in a camp setting or a residence hall
- Relevant academic background that reflects a commitment to academic excellence
