Dean for the School of Behavioral and Community Health

Moravian University is located in the center of historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. From its early roots as the sixth oldest institution of higher education in the nation and the first school to open its doors to women, Moravian University has been a pioneer. Moravian University, a master's comprehensive university, seeks an energetic, talented, and collaborative leader to serve as the founding dean of University's new School of Behavioral and Community Health.

The founding Dean of the School of Behavioral and Community Health at Moravian University will be a leader and builder. The Dean will lead the revitalization and expansion of the Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling program while building new graduate and undergraduate degree programs (such as social work, additional graduate behavioral health programs) to support our educational mission and serve our community. The Dean will work closely with internal and external partners to expand and develop academic programs to meet the mental health needs of the regional community. The Dean is a member of the faculty (rank commensurate with experience) who also holds an administrative appointment related to managing a specific program or programs.

The Dean will have the opportunity to develop and implement innovative programs that prepare behavioral health professionals to work in multidisciplinary settings. The programs will prepare students to meet state licensure requirements, while also preparing them to serve the mental health needs of the highly diverse Lehigh Valley. The Dean will engage in professional associations, businesses, and the local community as necessary to promote the visibility and stature of the program(s). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employs a vision to build a successful School of Behavioral and Community Health within a dynamic masters comprehensive university with a liberal arts mission.
  • Prioritizes equity and inclusion, recruitment, and retention in the student experience.
  •  Fosters a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Support school initiatives and directives to maintain compliance with accreditation and state regulatory criteria and adhere to all University and campus policies and procedures.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external partners, especially clinical partners.
  • Working with the program directors, recruit, onboard, mentor, and evaluate full and part-time faculty members for the program, including guiding them through University tenure, promotion, and annual review
  • Conduct regular assessment of the curricula and programs.
  • In partnership with campus leadership and appropriate offices, develop and support a plan for outreach activities to generate a prospective student pool sufficient to sustain and grow the program, consistent with the strategic enrollment plan.
  • Participate in University-wide committees and meetings.
  • Develop and occasionally teach courses for one or more of the programs.

OVERSIGHT OF THE MACC PROGRAM:

  • Oversee the Master of Arts of Clinical Counseling program until a program director can be hired; lead the search for the MACC program director
  • Coordinate with the Program Director (PD) on the selection and development of a Program Advisory Council (PAC) that meets at least twice per year.
  • Develop new tracks and pathways to attract undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in program-related Campus events, as indicated, including New Student Orientation, Pinning or other ceremonies, graduations.
  • Support and execute, as needed, University initiatives designed to achieve student success as outlined in the University's strategic plan.

OTHER PROGRAMS:

  • Help to envision and develop new and connected programs, such as a Masters in Clinical Social Work.
  • Working with University leadership, develop and implement business plans for the new programs.
  • Hire program directors appropriate for the leadership positions, who understand how to build and direct programs within the context of a regional university guided by a liberal arts mission.


Preferred and Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or related field
  • Preferred specialization in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Pennsylvania Licensure (or eligibility to pursue PA licensure)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of college-or university-level teaching experience
  • Experience with program assessment and accreditation
  • Leadership, vision, and exceptional communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, university leaders, and public groups.
  • Evidence of a successful record of scholarship appropriate to the candidate's discipline.

Additional qualifications that will reflect positively on candidates:

  • Experience with Program or Department leadership
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Experience with Social Work programs
  • Online teaching is a plus
