The University of Manitoba Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2022. Candidates must have at least one social work degree from an accredited university and must hold or be near completion of a PhD or DSW in social work or a related discipline at the time of application.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

The preferred areas of research, teaching, and professional experience include one or more of the three following areas: Management, Leadership, and Administration. Candidates will be expected to develop a strong and ongoing program of research and publications. Candidates must have the ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students and will be expected to offer courses in one or more of the following areas: Management, Leadership, and Administration. The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach core courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and to develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Familiarity with multiple modes of course delivery is expected.

Duties/responsibilities include teaching, research and service to the faculty, university, community, and profession. This position will support our students who are in field placements focused on social work management, leadership, and administrative practices and those who wish to focus their graduate work on topics in these areas.  We are particularly interested in candidates who are focused on leadership and management of diverse work forces, change management and management of innovations, and those who focus on leadership and management practices that promote social justice and anti-oppressive practices in the public and non-profit sectors.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience and research in the following areas of knowledge:  Management and leadership practices that establish just workplaces which foster inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ groups, racialized and Indigenous groups and groups with various abilities and Indigenous management practices.

The Faculty of Social Work is one of the largest social work programs in Canada, with a proud history of teaching, research and service spanning over 75 years. The Faculty offers the Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees in Social Work. We offer an established innovative MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges.

The Faculty of Social Work engages in teaching, research, and community service across the broad spectrum of social work modalities of practice (direct intervention with individuals and families, group work, community development, policy analysis and development, and social research and administration). 

We engage with a variety of fields of practice to provide leadership to improve outcomes for child welfare, family violence, mental health and addictions, the disability field, heath care, population health, poverty reduction, etc. The FSW has strengths in social work practice grounded in Indigenous Knowledges and related to constituencies in Manitoba facing challenges such as Indigenous and newcomer communities, those experiencing mental health challenges and family violence, and the economically marginalized.   Our programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.
