Job Description

The Student Employment Coordinator (SEC) has full responsibility of the operations of the Campus Employment Program, including Federal Work-Study (FWS), Institutional Student Employment Program, and off-campus positions. The ideal candidate will have good strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical accounting skills with a strong desire to learn, and will be relationship-driven, tactful, and possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the liaison with the university community regarding student employment job requests, job postings, job classifications and disciplinary actions for student employees, and hires and terminates all student employees using the campus payroll system
  • Works collaboratively with Financial Aid, Payroll, Career and Professional Engagement and off-campus community partners
  • Coordinates, maintains, and monitors student employment programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines and regulations
  • Posts and monitors all available campus employment positions in Handshake
  • Reviews student employment eligibility and collects appropriate new hire information (obtains departmental student hire authorizations, verification of I-9 Forms, state and federal tax forms, etc.) and assembles hiring packet for processing
  • Responsible for auditing timesheets submitted by student employees, and correcting any errors or discrepancies, troubleshoots to resolve payroll issues
  • Oversees reconciliation of federal and institutional employment funds which supports the completion of the FISAP
  • Acts as a liaison for the Financial Aid department by working with other departments on campus.
  • Participating in events such as employment career fairs, orientation, first-year experience presentations.
  • Develops and maintains all necessary forms, policies, and processes for students and supervisors
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two or more years of experience working in a financial aid office or student accounts office environment
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access )
  • Ability to organize, plan and manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working independently, as well as on a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting within a customer service office environment.
  • Previous presentation and training experience in a variety of formats: individuals, groups, virtual, and in-person, etc.
  • Knowledge of labor laws and I-9 compliance
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with all constituencies of an ethnically diverse university community
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Completion of SEE Training: Student Employment Essentials through NSEA

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Mental/Visual Demand and Physical Effort
  • For normal office environment must be able to lift 25 lbs. from floor level.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver normal size full file box for archival purposes.
  • Must be able to occasional bend, twist, and stoop.
  • Frequent typing of computer keyboard.
