Job Description:

*This is a 12 month position.

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening for a Head Teacher in our Childcare department.

Under the general supervision of the Director of The Children's Campus, the Head Teacher is responsible for the development and implementation of curriculum for young children attending childcare. The Head Teacher will work with the infant/toddler age group. The Head Teacher will maintain a developmentally appropriate environment that is both nurturing and stimulating; provide coaching and guidance for part-time and student workers, service learning students and cooperating teachers; and participate in administrative duties. The Head Teacher may provide supervision of The Children's Campus in the absence of the Director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Implement research-based Creative Curriculum by submitting monthly and weekly plans for learning centers in the classroom, while developing studies and presenting related materials for investigation and exploration. 

Promote activities that support the whole child - physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally, within consistent routines and schedules.

Foster play-based, hands-on, experiential learning through play that fosters curiosity, persistence, positive approaches to learning, and language/communication abilities.

Develop relationships with each child and with the classroom community that encourage security and trust in adults and peers as they play.

Maintain a high scores on environmental rating scales (ITERS and ECERS) and social-emotional rating scales (TPOT and TPITOS), demonstrating mastery of best practices in early childhood education.

Maintain an awareness of young children's histories, particularly as it applies to health and special needs; and to plan accordingly by adapting and modifying the classroom environment.

Submit all reports and records as assigned in a timely manner.

Communicate effectively with parents. Prepare for and attend parent-teacher conferences. Provide daily, weekly and monthly communication for parents to foster and expand their knowledge of child development as it pertains to their child/children.

Assist in the maintenance of The Children's Campus to ensure that it complies with standards of health and safety, following the Manual of Standards of the NJ Department of Children and Families (DOF) and the Office of Licensing. 

Attend all trainings and staff meetings of The Children's Campus, as well as taking full advantage of at least 20 hours of professional development in early childhood education, through Grow NJ Kids (GNJK) Coalition of Infant-Toddler Educators (CITE), and Community Childcare Services of Somerset County. 

Adhere to the standards and ethical codes of The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and maintain membership in NJ AEYC https://www.nj.gov/dcf/providers/licensing/laws/CCCmanual.pdf 

 

 

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate and/or Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • P-3, Infant/Toddler, and/or K-12 Certification.
  • Must meet or exceed the Group Teacher qualifications as outlined in the NJ Manual of Standards for Child Care Centers.
