POSITION TITLE: Tenure-track Faculty Position in Latin American Studies
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Sociology Department at Sacramento State is one of the largest departments at the university with approximately 13 tenure-track faculty and 22 lecturers who serve over 900 undergraduate majors and more than 30 graduate students. Our faculty specialize in a broad range of sociological topics that cohere with an intersectional and a social justice focus. The faculty prioritize teaching while also engaging in scholarship and service. Our undergraduate program provides students a well-rounded education in sociology and strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in sociology. Our graduate program provides advanced theoretical and methodological skills that prepare students for Ph.D. programs or professions that value research and critical analytical skills. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Master of Arts degree.
POSITION DETAILS:
The Sociology Department is particularly interested in receiving applications from qualified people with the commitment and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population to advance the University's antiracism, anti-bias, diversity, and inclusion goals, as well as the Department's intersectional and social justice focus. Applicants should have teaching, research, and/or community service experiences that align with Latin American Studies and with the indigenous roots/heritage of Latin American communities across borders.
JOB DUTIES:
1) teaching courses in the curriculum as well as proposing courses relevant to Latinx/Latin American studies, particularly courses that reflect the Latinx student and community populations at Sacramento State;
2) teaching and developing other undergraduate/graduate core courses;
3) major advising;
4) engaging in scholarly activities;
5) supervising undergraduate and graduate student research;
6) addressing the needs of diverse student populations through development of highly effective course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement;
7) providing service to the campus, department, and the community; and
8) helping historically underrepresented and underserved students to be successful.
