The Department of Research Services in the University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Undergraduate Instruction & Outreach Librarian and tenure-track Assistant Professor.

Within this setting, the Undergraduate Instruction and Outreach Librarian and tenure-track Assistant Professor is expected to play an enthusiastic, user-oriented, collaborative role in supporting the mission of Georgia Southern University and the Georgia Southern University Libraries Information Literacy program as it continues to evolve to meet the information needs of its three distinct campus communities.

Position Description. Reporting to the Head of Research Services at Henderson Library on the Statesboro campus, the person in this position teaches information literacy (and other associated digital literacies) skills, provides research consultations and chat reference service, and develops and initiates outreach programs and services focused on lower-division undergraduate students.

Responsibilities
Creates and initiates outreach efforts focused on lower-division undergraduate students with a creative approach drawing on traditional and innovative practices.
Assists in promotion of undergraduate-focused programming and assessment in information literacy and the Research Services department.
Plans, teaches, and assesses information literacy classes both in-person and online, primarily targeted to students in English, and Writing and Linguistics departments, and other areas as assigned.
Participates in evaluation of the instruction program and outcome assessment of instruction sessions.
Collaborates with faculty and other academic professionals in planning, implementing, teaching, and assessing information literacy programming generally and in assigned liaison areas.
Provides quality reference services to library patrons via in-person and/or virtual reference services, including in-depth research consultations.
Participates in the development and maintenance of various instructional and promotional materials, including tutorials, social media, and other innovative tools.
Participates in an active liaison program by communicating and developing relationships with faculty in assigned departments.
Participates in collection development for general collection materials and assigned liaison subject areas.
Conducts scholarship, teaching and service as part of tenure-track responsibilities.

This entry level position is a fiscal year (12 month), faculty-rank, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree from an American Library Association accredited program in library/information studies.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Demonstrable commitment to current practices of teaching, learning, and information literacy.
Strong commitment to providing courteous service in a user-centered environment.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with faculty to design, implement, and assess information literacy.
Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods in Information Literacy instruction.
Knowledge of instructional planning and design.
Some experience teaching information literacy to undergraduates.
Experience with reference and bibliographic resources.
Experience using online platforms such as Zoom, learning management systems, and video creation software.
Experience using the Springhare platform and statistics.
Knowledge of visual communication and/or graphic design skills.
Skills in promoting and marketing library programs to the university community.
Experience in supervising student workers and/or staff in a library setting.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging with students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
