Job Description

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking a full-time Manager of the Archway Annual Giving working within the Advancement office who will be responsible for the planning and execution of a comprehensive annual giving program designed to both grow operating support for Nebraska Wesleyan University and increase the number of donors who participate. Areas of responsibility include: data-informed decision making to create annual giving strategies for the Archway Fund, managing the Phonathon Annual Giving program, managing student engagement and parent giving initiatives, managing Nebraska Wesleyan’s annual Giving Day, and collaborating with the Director of Annual Giving to determine and share Archway Fund milestones with NWU’s Board of Governors.

This position reports to the Director of Annual Giving and requires cross-functional relationships within the institution This position will utilize various communication channels including, but not limited to, phone, direct mail, email, social media, and web to accomplish set goals related to annual giving and, with a focus on donor acquisition and retention.

The NWU Phonathon Annual Giving program requires the Manager to hire, train, and supervise 10 – 15 student callers. While the position is a salaried position that will work 40-50 hours per week on average, the hours will vary during the year due to the Phonathon responsibilities. The incumbent will flex their hours worked around regular office hours. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm., May through August and November through March. The NWU Phonathon requires the incumbent to be able to work and supervise student callers from 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm Sunday through Thursday in September, October, and April (12 weeks of the year).

  • Create annual giving strategy for solicitations and segmentation for a range of constituent groups including alumni of various ages, parents, faculty, staff and students with the goal of growing the Archway Fund.
  • Develop an annual solicitation and stewardship calendar in collaboration with the Advancement Writer and Communications Coordinator.
  • Manage student phonathon program: develop segmentation, messaging and caller training strategy to improve overall program results and efficiency.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff of 10 -15 student callers. Manage all phonathon related tasks including payroll, budget analysis, and employee evaluation.
  • Coordinate phonathon strategies and analysis with overall Archway Fund strategies and serve as a liaison to any outside phonathon vendors
  • Plan and execute Giving Day: in concert with Advancement colleagues and the Marketing Department, develop a comprehensive Giving Day plan with a goal of raising $100,000 through retention, reactivation and acquisition efforts; identify/manage a team of 50-100 alumni, parent, student, faculty and staff volunteers to employ peer-to-peer fundraising tactics.
  • Leverage social media and volunteers to reach disengaged non-donor constituencies, with the goal of cultivating future gifts.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive student engagement and parent giving program in coordination with the Director of Annual Giving which will include planning events and communication to educate students and parents about philanthropy, volunteerism and cultivating gratitude.
  • Perform other duties to support the NWU Advancement Department as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, fundraising or related field.
  • Possess strong analytical skills, communication skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks in a high volume environment.
  • Must be computer proficient, with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, One Note and SharePoint.
  • Must be able to maintain and be responsible for confidential information, accuracy and ongoing record-keeping.
  • Experience with direct mail, email and digital marketing strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of fundraising best practices strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an outbound call center environment preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, proofread and ensure accuracy of data and reports.
  • Ability to negotiate with others and resolve conflicts, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • Must have high initiative, confidence, integrity, strong work ethic, and desire to consistently improve internal processes.
