The School of Public Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of South Florida seeks applicants for a 9-month, renewable, full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Instructor/Assistant Professor of Instruction with an emphasis in Public Policy, Public Administration, and/or State and Local Politics. The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate students but may also be assigned to teach graduate students, conduct applied research projects, and engage in public service. Primary applied research and teaching responsibilities will be in state and local politics, public policy, and/or public administration. The successful candidate will also be responsible to organize, manage, and deliver the public policy internship programs offered by the school. Teaching responsibilities will include the public policy internship program undergraduate curriculum (e.g., Public Policy Making, Intro to American Government, State and Local Politics) as well as upper-level electives and graduate courses in our MPA program. The successful candidate would also likely provide new offerings in a specific area of public policy or public administration, specifically a keen understanding of the legislative process for the state of Florida and local government within the state of Florida. Secondary applied research and teaching interests may include urban politics; municipal government; public management; representative bureaucracy; ethics; diversity, equity, and inclusion in public and non-profit management; anti-essentialism; or other areas consistent with the needs of the school.
The individual selected for the position will be responsible to offer course instruction, advising, and coordinating assistance to students enrolled in the Legislative Internship Program (LIP) and Tallahassee Internship Programs (TIP) offered through the School of Public Affairs. Some travel to Tallahassee, the Capitol, and placement sites across the Tampa Bay area is required.
Master’s degree plus 5 years of experience in Applied Public Policy. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
Ph.D. in political science, public administration, public policy, or related discipline.
