The Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor, Psychiatry Educator (M.D., D.O., M.B.B.S.) in Augusta, Georgia.
This position with the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior participates with teaching responsibility as directed by the Augusta University Office of Academic Affairs. Up to 70% of this full-time position will be directly supported for educational assignments. Educational assignments include didactic teaching, clinical “bedside” teaching, and innovative curriculum development. We would consider hiring a qualified applicant under an O-1A visa who possesses extraordinary ability in psychiatric education.
In addition, the position requires 0.3 FTE direct adult patient care in the Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior outpatient clinic. Participation in taking general psychiatry call approximately one weekend per quarter, one holiday per year and telephonic call 1-2 weeknights per month. Weekend and holiday call involves conducting general psychiatry rounds with residents in the AU Medical Center Emergency Department and on AU Medical Center medical floors on patients being followed by the department’s Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Service.

Known as the “Garden City”, Augusta sits along the banks of the Savannah River and hosts urban living with a variety of restaurants, playhouses, concerts, a newly renovated symphony hall, and minor league baseball. The Medical College of Georgia Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior is committed to an integrated approach to understanding and treating mental health disorders through research, education and patient care. Our faculty experts contribute to the knowledge and advancing future care through research in areas including depression, suicide, insomnia, schizophrenia, addiction, children’s mental health, forensic psychology and more. We have a strong history of extramural funding, especially in the areas of schizophrenia, depression, brain stimulation, and suicide and have received about $2 million in support of our extramural research programs since the fiscal year 2013, with the strongest support coming from the NIMH.
We have clinical programs in child and adolescents, eating disorders, geropsychiatry, schizophrenia and mood disorders, dialectical behavior therapy, therapeutic neurostimulation, health behavior, and a comprehensive addiction management program. The department is home to accredited ACGME-approved fellowship training programs in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and addiction medicine; as well as, other training programs in forensic psychology, serious mental illness, women’s health psychology, LGBTQ psychology, child and adolescent psychology, and psychotic disorders.
