Job Description

 

The Starzl Transplantation Institute (STI) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Research Instructor, appointment stream.

The appointee will work closely with Dr. David Rothstein and other members of his lab group. The appointee will also be expected to engage in active collaboration with other scientists within the STI and the Department of Immunology. The appointee will participate in work on NIH funded projects on novel aspects of B cell biology and regulatory B cells that include: 

-The role of Plasma Cells and the regulatory role of BLIMP-1 in Breg activity.       
-New roles for B cell IL-10, in addition to regulatory function.          
-Characterizing the biology function of potent bone marrow-derived Breg precursors.       

The projects utilize various novel genetically modified strains of mice in autoimmune and allograft models and approaches include analysis of the transcriptome /chromatin accessibility of cells at population and single-cell levels.

The appointee will also support the expansion of laboratory objectives including grant writing, publication of research findings, oversight and mentoring of staff, fellows and students.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Individuals applying for this position must have an MD or Ph.D. in immunology or a related field and have a demonstrated record of success evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Relevant training and post-doctoral experience are required in the use of murine models to study immune responses, cellular immunology, and/or bioinformatics. Individuals should have analytical and critical thinking skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
