Job Description

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and conducting educational programs in home ownership, family budgeting, and community resources offered through Harris county community agencies. in Harris County. The Extension Associate, under general supervision, will provide leadership for effective educational programs supporting families and community leaders in home-ownership, business development, and community development throughout the State of Texas. The employee will promote, manage and evaluate outreach programs and report the results. The extension agents, community leaders, and government officials in developing and implementing research based programs. Will work with community based organizations to effectively link the Community Development Unit and the community.

This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance in the area of Community and Economic Development resources to the Cooperative Extension Program County Staff (Extension Agents-CEP) and other relevant stakeholders (i.e. Texas AgriLife Extension) in planning, executing, and evaluating educational programs in housing development, small business development, non-profit development, business financing, credit, debt, asset building and other emerging areas identified in the program area.
  • Provide assistance to home buyers and homeowners on home buying resources and financial tools. Develop and foster relationships with mortgage lenders for home buyers.
  • Build relationships with local community organizations that offer community services and supports target audiences. Identify and create partnerships with organizations to provide community resources and support services such as housing assistance, travel to work, work clothing, food assistance, etc.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate culturally competent educational programs that reach, and are accessible to a wide range of audiences; Plan and implement appropriate impact evaluations and reports to document program effectiveness. Develop plans of work based on ongoing assessment of community needs.
  • Develop and follow a personal plan for professional development in the area of community resource development and outreach education methodology consistent with personal and organizational goals.
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.



Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience working with limited resource clientele in the area of housing, community development, business development or financing. Experience in teaching and conducting presentations on home ownership, community development, and small business development.



Preferred Experience:

  • Three to five years of professional experience providing technical assistance in home ownership, and community organization development.
