Job Description:


The Department of Physics at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in Physics at the rank of Assistant Professor. We invite applicants in all areas of astrophysics (theoretical, observational, and experimental, nuclear astrophysics, and particle physics). The Department of Physics- consisting of 17 faculty members- is currently developing a Ph.D. program. We are seeking highly qualified candidates committed to a career in both research and teaching at our institution. The successful candidate will significantly grow the expertise of our Department by adding intellectual diversity, is expected to develop new undergraduate and graduate classes, and provide new research opportunities to our students. The ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues across the traditional fields of physics is a priority. The start-up package is negotiable with an anticipated appointment date of Fall 2022.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The recruited faculty member will: (1) engage and mentor a culturally diverse undergraduate and graduate student body in research experiences; (2) effectively communicate across diverse disciplines and faculty/student populations; (3) advance best teaching and research practices; (4) provide leadership through university, professional, scientific and/or community service; (5) demonstrate scholarly activity as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals; and (6) develop and sustain an extramurally-funded research program.




Preferred and Required Qualifications

Requirements:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field, and a strong record of research achievement appropriate for their career stage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Postdoctoral experience is a plus, as well as research mentoring experience with both undergraduate and graduate students- especially students from underrepresented groups.
