The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences (DDTS) in the College of Health Professions invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor/non-tenure track Clinical Instructor in the Medical Laboratory Science Program.

Within this setting, The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program's purpose is to provide students with academic preparation and clinical experiences required for the program graduate to enter the workforce as a competent, professional entry-level medical laboratory scientist. The successful candidate for this position works with other medical laboratory science faculty in providing quality instructional course work, student practice laboratories and clinical rotations in qualified laboratory settings.
Position Description. Reporting to the DDTS department chair, the Assistant Professor or Clinical Instructor position will be responsible for clinical coordination and will also teach in a traditional classroom and laboratory setting as well as an online environment. Service to the department, college, and university as well as professional development responsibilities and scholarship are also requirements for this position. The position is an academic fiscal year (12 month), tenure (Assistant Professor) or non-tenure track (Clinical Instructor) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Earned doctorate (required for Assistant Professor/tenure track) or Master's (accepted for Clinical Instructor) in medical laboratory science/medical technology, health sciences, public health, natural science, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2022
Medical laboratory science/Medical technology degree from an institution accredited by NAACLS (National Accrediting Association for Clinical laboratory Sciences)
Generalist certification in Medical Laboratory Science by ASCP.
A minimum of (3) years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
A minimum of (2) years teaching experience either as an appointed faculty member in a NAACLS accredited program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
A specialty credential in one of the subdisciplines of medical laboratory science (Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Immunohematology, or Molecular Diagnostics)
More than three years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a Medical Laboratory Science Program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
Minimum of five years' experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist /Medical Technologist.
Experience in course development.
Two years' experience teaching online.
Active in national or state association.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
